It is with profound regret that we share the passing of Kathy Wright, Co-President, CARP Ottawa Chapter, and Chair, CARP Advocacy Working Group on LTC. Kathy passed away on June 19th following a brief illness.
Kathy was a natural leader and mentor with a strong vision and determination. In her retirement years she focused her advocacy efforts on changing long-term care homes from “institutions to homes”. She was the driving force of the CARP Advocacy Committee on LTC. We will miss her immensely but we will use her legacy to continue the work she started.

A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, July 4 from 1:00 – 4:00 pm at the Ottawa Tennis Club (176 Cameron Avenue).

For sure this is a huge loss. But I know that many of the initiatives that Kathy and this hardworking group advocated for will be her enduring legacy. Emotion based care is now recognized as a goal and that traditional institutions do not need the needs. This is recognized in Ottawa, Ontario and across Canada.
Kathy never gave up educating and advocating. Profound loss.
