Decisions around how often the group will meet will be made at the first meeting of the group. It is anticipated that the time demands on the members will not be excessive and that the meetings will be virtual.

My dad was in long-term care from 2018 to 2021. I have volunteered in LTC from 2021 and continue to do so. From my perspective the most important change that can happen is home design. Put an end to the 32 bed home areas that perpetuate institutionalized, task-oriented, congregate care. Smaller home areas, with smaller dining rooms where residents can assist with food preparation or have a snack at the time of their choosing would make a huge difference. Lets also put an end to scheduled, task-oriented care. Residents should have a bath or a snack at a time of their choosing, not the strictly scheduled timetable of staff. Lastly we should provide more opportunities for people living in LTC to interact with nature. Science has proven that nature is soothing, and healing.
Many thanks for taking the time to provide valuable and encouraging feedback. Our advocacy efforts are very much focused on the aspects of change in long-term care homes you so clearly delineate in your comments. These changes cannot come quickly enough in all long-term care homes in Ontario!
